Creative art and honest tool reviews from a artist mom.

If you are looking for paint markers that are easy to use right out of the box, the Sharpie Creative Markers are a pretty solid option. These water-based acrylic markers are designed to give a paint-like finish without needing to constantly shake or prime them before use. They are made for paper, wood, glass, ceramic, canvas, and other surfaces, and Sharpie says the colors are meant to layer well and dry quickly.

I have been using these markers recently and honestly, I like them quite a bit. The paint/ink flows nicely and one of my favorite things is that I do not have to shake them down every few minutes. That alone makes them less annoying to use compared to a lot of other paint markers.

The colors dry really nicely and look clean with very little streaking. I also liked how easy it was to layer colors over each other. You can draw over other colors without the marker dragging or getting patchy. The quick drying time is also nice if you tend to smudge things accidentally like I do.

That said, lighter colors over darker colors still are not perfect. As with anything else, light over dark does not fully cover and you can still usually see the darker color underneath even after a few coats.

Because they dry fairly quickly, I would not recommend these if your main goal is blending colors together. These work much better for clean lines, layering, doodling, journaling, and craft projects rather than soft blended artwork.
