Paint Marker Comparison/Review – My thoughts on a variety of paint markers that include oil based, acrylic and water based pens. Overall I would say that I prefer using a brush for painting, but sometimes with doing line work a paint marker comes in handy. I have 7 different types of paint markers that consists of 5 different brands. The brands are Sharpie, Sta, CraftSmart, Zeyar and Artistro.

Paint Marker Comparison/Review

Here are my thoughts on the pens:

First Up Zeyar:

  • Zeyar – Water based Paint Marker: This pen has a smooth flow which was nice. But for me it’s a little bit to watery and does not leave clean markings, it bleeds a lot.
  • Zeyar  Dual Tip Acrylic – This one is nice because it has a dual tip. A broad and fine point. The pens dry out fast in my opinion. They write kind of rough.

I would rate this brand 3 stars. I would not purchase this brand again.

Next up Artistro:

  • Artistro Waterbased Paint Marker – I found this one to be difficult to work with. You constantly have to push down to get the paint to flow so it does not leave smooth markings. Just to get it started I had to press down about 50 times. Like the Zeyar one it is also watery and bleeds.
  • Artistro Oil Based – I found this one to be easy to work with. The flow is nice. My only complaint is that the markings bleed so it is not making smooth lines and edges.

I would rate this brand 3 stars as well. I would not purchase this brand again.

Sta Metallic Color Pen – This is a nice pen. It writes smooth and it does not bleed. I like that I do not have to push down for the ink to flow. The metallic looks is nice. Although not very strong. This one is more like a marker than a paint type marker. The consistency is more like a paint marker than a regular marker. I would give this one 4 stars and I would purchase this pen again.

CraftSmart Paint Pen – I would rate this one 3 stars. This pen writes rough and drys out quickly. While edges do not bleed they are not smooth. I would consider buying this pen again, but likely only if it was my only choice for a color I was looking for.

Sharpie Oil Based Paint Marker – I really love this one. I would rate this pen 5 stars and would definitely buy this again. This pen writes smoothly and does not bleed. I do not have to continually press down for the paint to flow. This pen I would also recommend to anyone looking for a nice oil based paint marker. I am a huge fan of Sharpie so I find this paint marker to fit well with it’s brand and it’s consistency with making a good product.
