Let’s Resin Skull with Lights
I have been having way too much fun making these skulls! I originally started making them with the idea that I might eventually sell them, but there is one tiny problem with that plan. I keep making them and then I don’t want to give them up. 😂
This skull was made using Let’s Resin resin and pigment, along with a red mica powder from another brand. Unfortunately, the label on the mica powder has faded so badly that I have no idea what brand it is anymore. LOL.
My Second Skull with Lights
This is my second skull that I have made with lights inside, and I absolutely love the way it looks. There is just one problem. You can’t really see the lights very well.
I added too much of the black pigment, which made the skull too dark to see all of the lights. Now the question is do I leave it as is or cut the cord and not use it as a skull with lights?
So, lesson learned. When I make the next one, I need to be a little more careful with the pigment. I still want the skull to have that dark, creepy look, but I also want those lights to actually show through.
A Few Sticky Spots
I also ended up with a couple of sticky spots on this one. Rather than letting them ruin the skull, I covered those areas with some clear UV resin. That did the trick, and now those spots are noticalbe a little bit. But they are not sticky.
I think this is one of those projects where you have to be willing to accept a few imperfections. Resin can definitely have a mind of its own, and sometimes the project doesn’t turn out exactly the way you pictured it. Thankfully, this one still looks pretty darn cool. Would I Make More? Absolutely!
I’ve already made a bunch of these skulls, and I keep wanting to experiment with different colors, pigments and lighting. My original plan was to make these to sell. I still might eventually get there, but honestly, I’m having a hard time parting with them.
I mean, look at it! How am I supposed to make these and then actually sell them when I want to keep every single one? 😂
I really love the creepy look of this one, even though I went a little overboard with the pigment. And honestly, that’s part of the fun of experimenting with resin. You learn something from every piece, and then you get to try again on the next one.
For the next skull with lights, I’ll definitely be using less pigment so the glow has a better chance of showing through.
And maybe, just maybe, I’ll actually make one that I’m willing to sell. No promises though. LOL.
