Michael’s $10 Grab Box Haul: The Craft Supply Gamble I Love

I stopped by Michaels today with one simple mission: pick up some Apoxie Sculpt for a sculpture project. That was the plan.

But like many trips to a craft store, things escalated.

Near the front of the store I spotted something that always gets my attention — Michael’s $10 grab boxes.

If you’ve never seen these before, they’re basically mystery boxes filled with clearance merchandise. You pay about $10 and usually get around $100 worth of random craft supplies or décor. The catch? You have absolutely no idea what’s inside until you open it.

For someone who enjoys surprises (and bargain hunting), these boxes are ridiculously fun.

So obviously… I bought one.

Opening the $10 Michael’s Grab Box

The box itself didn’t give away many clues. Just a standard cardboard box sitting there innocently, pretending it didn’t contain a chaotic assortment of seasonal crafting supplies.

Once opened, it turned out to be mostly Christmas-themed décor and ribbon, along with a few items that could work year-round.

And honestly? I’m perfectly fine with that.

The biggest win: there was no Santa décor inside.

That alone is a victory.
(I have… opinions about Santa.)

What Was Inside the Michael’s Mystery Box

Here’s what this particular grab box included:

Ceramic Initial Decor

There were several ceramic monogram décor pieces featuring ornate pastel designs and decorative frames around each letter.

These could easily be used for:

  • Personalized décor
  • Gift tags or ornaments
  • Mixed media or altered art projects
  • Painting or customization
  • Since they’re ceramic, they’re also great for painting, distressing, or resin experiments.

Lighted Ribbon Tree Toppers

The box included two light-up ribbon tree toppers designed to look like glowing bows on top of a Christmas tree.

They have built-in lights woven through the ribbon, which makes them a nice alternative to traditional star or angel toppers.

Even if they don’t end up on a tree, they could be repurposed for:

  • Holiday wreaths
  • Mantel décor
  • Lighted wall décor

Assorted Decorative Ribbons

There were multiple spools of decorative ribbon in various styles including:

  • Neutral burlap ribbon
  • Snowflake patterned ribbon
  • Metallic gold ribbon
  • Green mesh ribbon
  • White glitter ribbon

Ribbon like this is always useful for gift wrapping, wreath making, holiday décor, or craft projects.

Nutcracker-Style Doll Decoration

One of the more unexpected items was a nutcracker-style decorative doll with curly brown hair and bright yellow boots.

It has a whimsical, almost vintage toy aesthetic and would work well in holiday displays or even quirky craft projects.

Why I Love Michael’s Grab Boxes

Part of the fun of these boxes is the randomness.

You never know if you’ll get:

  • Seasonal décor
  • Craft supplies
  • Home décor items
  • Party supplies
  • Or a chaotic mix of all of the above

For $10, it’s honestly hard to complain — especially when the retail value can be around $100 or more.

Even if some items aren’t exactly your style, they’re usually easy to:

  • Repurpose for crafts
  • Donate
  • Use in DIY projects
  • Save for future holidays

And if you’re someone who enjoys crafting experiments (like me), random supplies are basically creative fuel.

Overall, I’d call this $10 Michael’s grab box a solid win. Sure, it leaned heavily into Christmas décor, but ribbon is always useful, the ceramic initials are perfect for future craft experiments, and the lighted tree toppers are actually pretty cute.

And most importantly…

There was no Santa décor inside.

Which means I didn’t have to awkwardly make eye contact with a jolly ceramic man while pretending I wasn’t judging him.

So really, this mystery box delivered exactly what I wanted:
random craft supplies, a few weird surprises, and zero Santas judging my life choices from the craft shelf.

Honestly, I’ll probably grab another one the next time I see them.

Because nothing says creative chaos like opening a mystery box from a craft store.
